Yes. It must be <1024 characters long. <sigh> We ran into this about
two months ago.

Same here, but there is no recourse. However, I was able to pare down
the global directives a bit by tossing out the ones that weren't
relevant to our needs. YMMV. For some servers with major, but
consistant needs, we are using local directives.
