i'm using the xwindows networker adminstrator. the volumes window shows a
list of, for example, an old tape, ``tape.06'' and then 3 times ``tape.07''.
the savesets in the lower pane of this so called tape.06 appear to be the
most recently completed savesets. the most recently completed savesets today
are on tape.host.com.068 and tape.host.com.069. the other three listings of
tape.07 show no savesets in the bottom pane.

meanwhile, mminfo appears correct. those tapes ``tape.06'' and ``tape.07''
don't exist.

same situation using networker xwindows client on linux. version
6.1.build186. same cruddy info in the volumes window.

and here it gets good. the exact same networker client version 6.1.build186
on a solaris2.6 host shows correct info in the volumes window of the gui.
additionally, the tape.06 and tape07 shown on the client on the backup host
and the linux host are _not_ shown. additionally the Volumes menu item is
greyed out. i can probably xres the column widths but i can't now see the
number part of the volume names, but anyways it looks like a good list, and
selecting a volume shows sane output in the savesets pane.

i'm considering deleting the old cruddy ``tape.*'' from the mmdb. any tape
that i know of physically is tape.host.com.001-074, so the other cruft
should probably be excised anyways.

if anyone knows that this is a known GUI bug i would be greatly reassured.
imagine my surprise when both linux and sol7 agreed to be braindead but
sol2.6 was correct! is this some wacky rpc madness?

Subject: networker volumes gui vs mminfo

: i've recently inherited a networker setup:
: 6.1.build186 on solaris 5.7 master and storage, about a dozen solaris and
: linux clients.
:
: its working fairly well and aside from changing the schedules to something
: more sustainable i haven't done much other than handle tapes. the new
tapes
: i've labeled and used show up in mminfo.
:
: the networker GUI ``Volumes'' window top pane shows only three tapes; i've
: personally labeled and written and unloaded at least 40. further,
selecting
: the first tape shows current saveset info in the bottom `save sets' pane
: seemingly for the most recently written tape - the dates of the save sets
: are only the most recent. the second and third tapes show no saveset info
in
: the bottom `save sets' pane.
:
: thinking this is a db inconsistency i did some nsrck, but there were no
: problems. indeed, everything i've looked at from mminfo appears
consistent.
: so i'm thinking this could be a networker gui bug, no big deal.
:
: or i'm thinking this could be some infamous nsrcorruption that will only
: bite when i need to restore.
:
: any ideas?
