How are folks structuring their Exchange Servers and NetWorker for backups?

We are planning to define 2 client configs for each Exchange server as
follows:
        Client-Resource-1
                Savesets
                        SYSTEM STATE:
                        SYSTEM DB:
                        SYSTEM FILES:
                        C:
                        D:
                        E:

        Client-Resource-2
                Savesets
MSEXCH: All Extensible Storage Engine (ESE)enabled
                                        applications on the server. This
includes IS, SRS,
and KMS; it does not include private
mailboxes
                                        and public folders.
        OR
                Savesets
                        MSEXCH:IS (All Storage Groups)

        OR
                Savesets
                        MSEXCH:IS/storage-group1 (All databases in
storage group1)
                        MSEXCH:IS/storage-group2 (All databases in
storage group2)

        OR
                Savesets
                        MSEXCH:IS/storage-group1/database1 (database1
within storage-group1)
                        MSEXCH:IS/storage-group1/database2 (database2
within storage-group1)
                        MSEXCH:IS/storage-group2/database3 (database3
within storage-group2)
                        MSEXCH:IS/storage-group2/database4 (database4
within storage-group2)
                        MSEXCH:KMS (All KMS
storage groups)
                        MSEXCH:SMS (All SMS
storage groups)

Let's say we have 12 Exchange servers all on the SAN and all acting as
storage nodes.
And we're running 6.1.1 NetWorker server and client with 3.1 NME
And a tape library on the SAN (ADIC Scalar1000 with 6 LTO drives)
The first 6 Exchange Servers will use (via DDS) the first 6 drives and the
last 6 will wait until the drives become available.

Questions:
1) How do we best structure our Exchange DataStore..
2) Should we be setting our clients parallelism to 1 to guarantee quicker
restores?
Note I'm assuming that each exchange server will essentially own a library
tape drive until it's done all of it's savesets in both configs.
Each tape drive will be shared via DDS between 2 Exchange Servers
essentially with possibly a third shared by all 12.

thanks - John

Hello Carl,

This status, 0x8007203e, I do not see documented in any of Microsoft's
documentation, but I do see where they are testing for it in some of their
sample code (by hard-coding the hex value!) and considering it to be an
"invalid filter" as a result of trying to pull username details from Active
Directory.

As a result of all this, I think that this is most likely not anything
you're doing wrong, but something that we should address.

Please contact our support organization, with a full copy of the logfile,
and ask them to forward it to me.

Thanks,
_Scott

Subject: [Networker] Mailbox Backup Error

I'm setting up Exchange Module 3.1 on Exchange 2000 server for a client,
and am having a problem trying to backup mailboxes. Full backup runs okay
with MSEXCH: but when trying to do even a manual save of an individual
mailbox appears to save the data, but gives error at the end (below).

I know that under ver. 2.x, the nsrexec service on the Exchange server had
to be set to log on as an Exchange Admin, but from the doc's for 3.x it
appears this is no longer required, just needs Exchange Admin in Remote
User field of client resource ???

Excerpt from nsrxchsv.log:
[2648] Backing up Microsoft Exchange Private Mailboxes ...
[2648] /Private Mailboxes/<User Name> 111 MB 719060 bytes/second
[2648] G:\rt_2002_1Q\nsr\db_apps\aime\svmain.c(1121): process_mb_backup() =
0x8007203e
[2648] The XBSA transaction was not committed; the save operation did not
complete.
[2648] Processed 5326 items 111 MB in 0:03:06 616250 bytes/second
[2648] Stopping performance monitor update thread.
[2648] Performance monitor update thread terminating
[2648] Completion time Thu Sep 12 14:37:32 2002

Any ideas?
