[Networker] Pluggable ATA-Disk RAID Sets - as Backup Media for Disk to Disk Backups
2002-09-05 21:37:05
With 180-GB IDE (and soon Serial ATA/USB/FireWire) disks now becoming
mainstream, 1 TB RAID-Sets costing $3K-5K will become a compelling case as
backup medium. Today's IDE/ATA-based RAID NAS systems and commodity PC
motherboards with the ability to have up to 8 IDE/ATA Discs (or a 7+1P
RAID-5Set/or 8-Disk Concat) would allow data centers to have very fast backup
media that could be offsited as conveniently as Tape media. If it is indeed
true that disk to disk backups now require a separate license in NetWorker -
then I guess that is an acknowldegement that the day of disk based backups has
finally arrived...
