Why would you choose to do that? Seems like a sledgehammer approach.

There are lots of reasons why your tapes could be marked full prematurely.
In a pure SCSI environment it would be because of problems with
drives/tapes/cabling/terminators etc. You have an MDR so you have a SAN.
You have given us very little to go on, in terms of what your config is.
SAN introduces many more failure modes, such as bus resets, conflicts with
other devices or servers etc. You need to do a bit of work to find out what
the OS thinks is wrong. Check daemon.log and the event logger in W2K to see
whether there are device or controller errors. Then help us to help you by
telling us about your environment.
