Can somebody confirm the following . 
I've been informed there are two manufacturer of DLTIV tapes ( Maxell and Fuji 
). All other companies 'badge' the tapes e.g. Compaq.
The way to identify the manufacturer ( i have been told ) is to check the back 
of  the tape and look for an M or F in the serial number of tape.
Mixing these tapes on a backup run can cause media verification errors, tape 
cleaning errors etc.

Also,

If the above is true, do the manufacturer write their identification on  the 
tape somewhere so that we do not physically have to look at the tape. Therefore 
it can be checked remotely.
