Re: [Bacula-users] bacula can't make use of multi drives

Yes, assuming the “Prefer mounted volumes=yes” is the default because I don’t have that setting my jobs anywhere, yes or no. I believe yes is the default
and my setup is working now.
I did have a backup job hang with status running for over 8 hours with the following warning:
21-Nov 09:05 backup02-sd JobId 996: Job database.2014-11-21_09.05.00_26 is waiting. Cannot find any appendable volumes.
Please use the "label" command to create a new Volume for:
All 4 volumes in this pool are status ‘append’.
This occurred at the time I had 9 other jobs scheduled at the same time, 4 writing to 4 different drives/volumes in the same pool with
the other 6 jobs queued and waiting for a drive.
9 of 10 succeeded where this job never was able to continue. There other jobs in the mix which had the
same message for a bit but all were able to continue once a drive freed up when a previous job completed.
Not sure if this is a bug in bacula or not. The job that never completed, was listed as running for 8 hours
Elapsed time: 8 hours 32 mins 7 secs
should have been able to find any one of 4 volumes with status ‘append’ to finish. I ended up canceling the job, rerunning it and
it completed in 5 minutes.
Outside of that issue, all is looking great with my 10 drive virtual changer setup.
Thanks again for your help and if there are any ideas why this 1 job of 10 hung and never resumed I would be interested to know.
Jared
Yep, that was the final key to the puzzle. SUCCESS!!
Thank you so much for your help with this.
I’m running test jobs now with the new setting and I’m 4 jobs from same pool are writing to
4 different drives and volumes concurrently.
If this works with Prefer Mounted Volumes=yes, this is a milestone and the solution for many recent demands here in the forum.
Virtual Auto Changer with Maximum Concurrent Jobs per Device, writing in different volumes within the same pool. Great!

Hi Jared,
Try setting
Maximum Concurrent Jobs = 1
in each device definition. This will spread your 4 jobs in 4 drives of your autochanger device.
Device {
Name = Drive0
Drive Index = 0
Media Type = LTO
Archive Device = /dev/tape/by-path/ip-IPiscsi-iqn.1997-05.com.amazon:sgw-20b85d49-tapedrive-01-lun-0-nst
AutomaticMount = yes; # when device opened, read it
AlwaysOpen = yes;
RemovableMedia = yes;
RandomAccess = no;
LabelMedia = no;
AutoChanger = yes
# Enable the Alert command only if you have the mtx package loaded
Alert Command = "sh -c 'tapeinfo -f %c |grep TapeAlert|cat'"
SpoolDirectory = /etc/bacula/spool
Maximum Concurrent Jobs = 1
}
Best regards,
Ana
