Ah, OK.  I just occurred to me to read the README.txt 
file at
  http://repos.fedorapeople.org/repos/slaanesh/bacula/
and that explains how to use the 'alternatives' command
to select the postgresql libs.
Thanks jogging me in the right direction.
Everything working fine now.
