How about database records traveling over the WAN links?

However when I think of that this may not be needed as well since you
can have separate catalogs for each WAN and I believe that means you
can have separate databases (which can be housed on different
machines) for each catalog. The storage part is easy. Since the FD
communicates with the SD all you need is to have a storage server for
each WAN.
