Since I don't have a proper stinit.def will the tape function properly? I
have called Tandberg and HP and nobody can help me regarding this.

It's also worth noting that LTO has a trailing read head and every block
written to the tape is verified on the fly - rewritten if required.
This is one of the reasons the things are so reliable.
