Hi all,

I'm observing a strange behaviour regarding Automatic volume recycling
and an autoloader with bacula 2.4.4. Maybe someone can put me in the
right direction..
In short, the story is:
We use 2 Sets of Tapes (each 2 tapes) for weekly backups - even and
uneven weeks. Up to now, this was fine as the amount of data was smaller
than one tape. So there was no problem for bacula appending the data at
the tape it uses first. But now, the amount of data became larger (but
still fits on two tapes), and from time to time (e.g. when the tape used
first is filled by 80% from the previous backup) the backup can
obviously not complete because the first tape was not recycled but appended.
To prevent this, I manually changed the volume status after a
successfull backup from "Append" to "Full" (yes, I know there's no need
for that, because I can use e.g. "Volume Use duration", but anyway....).
Now the following happened:

12-Apr 01:50 xyz-dir JobId 2327: Start Backup JobId 2327,
Job=xyz_weekly_sugar.2009-04-12_01.50.00.54
12-Apr 01:56 xyz-dir JobId 2327: There are no more Jobs associated with
Volume "xyz_weekly_un_d_2". Marking it purged.
12-Apr 01:56 xyz-dir JobId 2327: All records pruned from Volume
"xyz_weekly_un_d_2"; marking it "Purged"
12-Apr 01:56 xyz-dir JobId 2327: Recycled volume "xyz_weekly_un_d_2"
12-Apr 01:56 xyz-dir JobId 2327: Using Device "Drive-1"
12-Apr 02:07 xyz-sugar-fd JobId 2327: ClientRunBeforeJob: run command
"/usr/local/bin/backup_sugar-db"
12-Apr 02:07 xyz-sugar-fd JobId 2327: ClientRunBeforeJob: run command
"/usr/local/bin/backup_rpm-selections"
12-Apr 01:56 xyz-sd JobId 2327: Job
xyz_weekly_sugar.2009-04-12_01.50.00.54 waiting. Cannot find any
appendable volumes.
Please use the "label" command to create a new Volume for:
    Storage: "Drive-1" (/dev/nst0)
    Pool: Pool_xyz_weekly_ungerade
    Media type: LTO3

So, the volume was recycled correctly, but bacula didn't want to
use/load it?! I had to load it manually into the drive - via unmount /
mount command and selecting the autochanger slot. Then bacula used it
immediately.
Without setting the volstatus manually, meaning there's at least one
tape in status "Append" everything runs fine as long as the capacity is
sufficient ;-)

Any ideas?
Thanks,
Robert
