Marcin,

they are fully consistent and recoverable files, there are  problems only if you turn off portability (portable=no in fileset options - don't remember right now which value is the default)
Basically when you turn off portability, the files are only restorable to the machine the file was backed up from (there's an additional data header that the are used by windows restore system calls to set the correct ownership and permissions).

G.

Gianluca,

are files backed up In this way files recoverable and consistent, or they are just unusable snapshot copy?

Marcin,

make sure you use the VSS=yes option in the fileset (it should be on by default) and bacula will backup open PST files even when outlook is running.

Hi Marcin,

AFAIK there is no way to incrementally backup PST files. If you use an Exchange-Server however there are some ways to incrementally backup user mailboxes.

All the best, Nils

Hi,

I'm going to set up the bacula to backup about 60 desktops and notebooks
(windows xp/vista), but I have big doubt:

How about backing up outlook .pst files (some of my users has giant size
like 10GB), is there any option to make bacula treat them incrementaly?
(because if just one mail is added to outlook.pst whole file is larger and
different).
How about backing up opened outlook files (when user is online and work in
outlook).

Thanks in advance for help,

Best regards,
