look at 'update volume', set the file count correct.

In addition to file count, you'll also nee to set volume status to  
append.

Yes.

It sounds like a backup was made after the Catalog was dumped.  Which
is consistent with what you reported above.

This situation is normal, given what happens when a backup is run.
