I'm not sure what you solved, but judging by the subject and what you did,
there's a much simpler way to do it.

Why would you want to delete the logical volume manager?

In particular, you're doing something very different to what reinstalling
BackupPC would do ... it's like saying "cleaning the window (by exchanging the
panes) works well without painting the walls".
