Put something like bg,soft,intr as your mount options instead of
default if you don't want to hang when the device isn't available.
Also check it by doing a 'mount -a' with the device unmounted instead
of waiting for a reboot to read the line for the first time.

ls -l will match the numeric uids on the disk to the ones in your
passwd file to show the names, so if it says backuppc then they are
right. But 'ls -n' will show the numbers.
