I can't seem to pinpoint the problem -N was not set, all of my settings are the 
same as they were on my old server it worked fine but the new BackupPC server 
is having issues.  I am going to reload it and see if that helps.  I appreciate 
everyones advice.

There was a change in some version of the underlying smbclient and the backuppc 
command has to match.  But I thought the -N was already out
in the current backuppc release.   Also, unless you permit guest
access you should get an error in the connection, not accessing the file 
listing.
