How did you install BackupPC (eg, using configure.pl from the source code, or via a package)? Did you rename the installation directory after you installed it?
I installed it via source. I found the culprit. It is the permission somewhere in /usr/local/BackupPC. It's because the umask of my root account is 077 so when the compile finish, most of the permission has no rw to groups and others.
