Hello,
I have tried searching for the answer to this, but could not find it, so please
do not get mad if the answer is easily located somewhere.

I have installed and configured BackupPC on a Linux (Debian Squeeze) box, and
it works perfectly, however, my true need for the backup is to have the backup
actually saved on to a network drive, which is formatted as a HFS+ drive (Apple
Time Capsule). Now, my problem is that when starting BackupPC with this
location setup, BackupPC complains that hard links are not supported by the
backup location:

Can't create a test hardlink between a file in /mnt/.cifs/backup/pc and
/mnt/.cifs/backup/cpool. Either these are different file systems, or this file
system doesn't support hardlinks, or these directories don't exist, or there is
a permissions problem, or the file system is out of inodes or full. Use df, df
-i, and ls -ld to check each of these possibilities. Quitting...

Now I know it's the hard link problem, and not a permission issue, because if I
issue "df -i", I get:

Filesystem Inodes IUsed IFree IUse% Mounted on
//frank/torgo/crow/backup  0           0          0       -
/mnt/.cifs/backup

Now, I know that the drive is capable of handling hard links, but I think that
I need either an option to SAMBA or to mount.cifs to turn on that
functionality, but I cannot find out which option. I had seen mention of Unix
Extensions, and "cat /proc/fs/cifs/LinuxExtensionsEnabled" produces 1, so I
don't really know where else to look for where to put such an option.

Am I going about this in the wrong way? Should I be backing up to this drive in
a different manner? Right now, $Conf{XferMethod} = 'tar'; but I have tried it
set to "smb" as well with the same results.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Ramzy Darwish
