I got these same errors when I grabbed a copy from an archive, because the
archive had line breaks where none belonged.  For other archives, I had
errors where spaces were injected after every @ sign (rather strange) or
symbols were replaced by their encoded equivalents.  I suspect the problem
is that the script was mangled.
