Getting them in the pool isn't enough - you have to make them appear in the 
same 
location in the same host in a full backup run so they are used as the 
comparison base for the next rsync.   You can do that by mounting the usb into 
the same location as the files should be on some other, more local host which 
may or may not be the server itself, then using the ClientAlias setting to 
temporarily point the backup for the real target host to the substitute holding 
the files.    If you do it some other way you could probably still make it work 
by mv'ing the pc tree where the files land into the location where they should 
be.
