I'm not sure about how the logs are buffered, but you might use a 'du' in the 
'new' directory to see if files are accumulating or even a 'tcpdump host 
target_ip' to see if packets are being exchanged.  Sometimes it is normal to go 
a long time without actually transferring any files, especially in an rsync 
full 
where most files are unchanged but are still compared.
