One approach I've been testing is to do a fresh install of Windows 2003
SBE onto the server up to the point where all the system files have been
installed I think it is the second reboot.
Then take an image of it with partimage and save it for future use.

When you want to restore the machine, you just use partimage to restore
the original fresh install system, then restore over that all the files
from backuppc (using VSS version of rsync to take backups, so it
includes open files).

So far, this seems to be working really well, the only thing that needs
to be done is re-activate the new install within a few days, but other
than that, it all works perfectly.

BTW, the HDD is in the same machine as backuppc, so I have a small
script which runs on the backuppc machine which restores with partimage,
mounts the drive locally, restores the files from backuppc using
Backuppc_tarcreate (I think) and then umounts ready to remove the
backuppc boot drive and boot into the windows server environment.

Adam
