This problem doesn't necessarily mean open files. It could simply mean that it is having trouble reading a directory listing.

I get this error quite a bit on some two older laptops. And it's almost always on the same directory. Rsync did not solve the problem either. It ended up abandoning BackupPC for them. However, I would love to get rid of the laptops as well.

Make sure your Windows machines have been defragmented.

I believe that increasing the 20000 ms requirement would involve recompiling the kernel.

Subject: [BackupPC-users] Call Timed Out

I'm using xfer method SMB to backup a server
the whole job fails with this error

"Call timed out: server did not respond after 20000
milliseconds opening remote file "

Is there anyway to adjust this or tell the job to skip
files that are open etc ...?

Thanks
