I don't know if the overhead associated with perl is higher
or lower.  I did see a reference in the archives to some
critical parts of the Rsync perl libraries being native
(compile C).  So this might suggest comparible overhead to
that of rsync.

The OS is 32 bit.

Good point about the 10 minute interval.  And the sar usage
creeps up to 50% until the last check before the backup
fails, then drops to 9%.
