Hi,

normally we use reiserfs on all of our servers. The only reason we decided to use ext3 for the vtapes is that it took several minutes to mount a big (mine is 12 TB) parition with reiserfs.

We use ZFS on all our FreeBSD7 backup machines.. Very cool, and has some great advantages (online pool extension, journaling file system, crc checksums, snapshots, etc)..

Just make sure you have a x64 version of freebsd, and you're good to go.. Sure, it's still considered an experimental feature, but with FreeBSD that usually means it's stable enough for production use, they just won't support it yet. :)
