Dustin was probably thinking of a reply I made to another thread
about the same time.
I have an 'unsubstantiated' memory that amanda RAIT will do a 3 tape
device RAIT as two device stripe with parity on the third device.
Which is chosen for the parity is position dependent, first or
third, but I forget which. So if your parity device is /dev/null,
you can have a two device striped RAIT.
