Yup, that was it, thanks. I had contacted as user root, as it seems,
importing the key there.

Does that mean I can *remove* the amanda-related entries in
/etc/xinetd.d on the server?

Does that mean I could run amanda *without* (x)inetd at all when doing
it the ssh-way? On Gentoo I often don't have xinetd installed from the
start and only install it for amanda ...
