Which apparently, 2 successfull runs in a row now, there hasn't been any 
of, with the above values doubled, amanda rebuilt and reinstalled.

As this not only needs ./configure mods (which I've already done to my 
build scripts), it needs changes in the /etc/xinetd.d/amanda file on both 
machines, so its bookmarked and will be done with the install of the next 
snapshot.

This brings up a wishlist item however.  It would be very nice indeed if 
amstatus, in the process of decoding the amdump.1 file on the fly, could 
detect and display the fact that these re-tries were in fact being 
exersized, along with what DLE the re-try was associated with.  That could 
be valuable info in arriving at an optimized backup strategy.
