I use Amanda 2.4.5 with FreeBSD 4.10, a tapetype DAT72 and a holding
disk. It works smoothly since several years.
But since yesterday I've got some problem with the holding disk and
amanda flush. We forget to flush the disk for several days.
I tried several amanda flush (ALL, A, B) but nothing happend. Amanda
does not flush any bytes from the disk. I changed the tape several
times. But I always get the same error after several hours:
NOTES:
driver: WARNING: /backup: 62914560 KB requested, but only 15670704 KB
available.
The warning is about your holdingdisk, and can be ignored in this case.
taper: tape VOL22 kb 31343392 fm 1 writing file: short write
Apparently there is a dump file that is larger than your tape.
Locate it and move or remove it. (there could be many chunks for
one dump.)
As a side note, I think you have hardware compression enabled together
with software compression. Otherwise you would have closer to 35 Gbyte
capacity on your DAT72 tapes, instead of 31 Gbyte now.
Try "amtapetype -c /dev/your/tape" with a blank tape for a quick test
(only a few minutes).
