Can dd write to it and read from it?
Can tar write to it and read from it?
Can dump write to it and read from it?
Can mt move position the tape in it?
Can mtx manipulate the changer if present?

Answer yes to the above and amanda can use it.
Note, none of those are amanda provided tools.
