In some previous mail (which I didn't safe) you mentioned you are also
running iptables? Is this client and/or server or something in between
running iptables or other firewall software? Does the client/server
has more than one network interface?

amandad: time 0.001: amandahosts security check passed
amandad: time 0.001: running service "/usr/local/amanda/libexec/sendsize"
amandad: time 15947.608: sending REP packet:

Phew! Does the estimate phase take really almost 16000 seconds?
Is that number any magic somewhere, I mean did you specify some
parameter to 16000? (in the amanda.conf or in the firewall?)

----
Amanda 2.4 REP HANDLE 000-B86F0608 SEQ 1061490311
OPTIONS features=fffffeff9ffe0f;
/home 0 SIZE 7916190
/data1 0 SIZE 6401370
/data2 0 SIZE 6651450
/data3 0 SIZE 1289670
/usr/local 0 SIZE 5216040
----

amandad: time 15957.605: dgram_recv: timeout after 10 seconds
amandad: time 15957.605: waiting for ack: timeout, retrying

So it seems that the client tries to send the perfectly formatted
respons with all estimates to the server, but that the server
did not answer. Is it still waiting for an answer after almost 16000 seconds? i.e. is planner still running on the server?

In the sendsize log, I see

sendsize[3004]: estimate time for /data3 level 0: 0.232
sendsize[3004]: estimate size for /data3 level 0: 1289670 KB
...

I see that it took almost 16000 seconds to estimate the first few
disks (which did not include in the output) while it took
less than half a minute to estimate the /data3 and /usr/local.
Very strange.
What filesystem is taking so long?

The runtar log is
runtar: debug 1 pid 3005 ruid 34 euid 0: start at Thu Aug 21 19:45:13 2003
/bin/tar: version 2.4.4p1
running: /bin/tar: /bin/tar --create --file /dev/null --directory /data3
--one-file-system --listed-incremental /usr/local/
amanda/var/amanda/gnutar-lists/flamingo_data3_0.new --sparse
--ignore-failed-read --totals --exclude-from /tmp/amanda/sends
ize._data3.20030821194513.exclude .

Again this is only the one from /data3. I'm curious to see
the one that takes about 4 hours. /home or /data[12] I mean.
