amrecover_changer - which snapshot?

I'm trying to set up amrecover_changer, but I understand that a snapshot after the 2.4.4 release needs to be installed to get it to work properly. Is this right? Which of the currently available snapshots do you think I should choose? And where do I have to install it? Client, tape server, or both?
