Here at the University of Sherbrooke, we solved the problem by using the
C locale.
LANG=C
LC_ALL=C
If you use these settings for backup AND for restore, filenames with be
store without checking the charset. You SHOULD use the same settings
for restore.

Using the client acceptor on a Ubuntu system.
In the dsmcad script, I am exporting
LANG=en_US
As specified in the manual, but still getting ans4042e messages about
unrecognized characters in the file name.
This is an ongoing problem on both redhat and Ubuntu systems that I have not
been able to solve.
Where from here?
