We have done this by using a Windows server to write the data to the NAS 
server.  The only problem we ran into was the original Windows data contained 
local ACLs and that freaked out or NAS server and failed the backup.  Basically 
the NAS server dropped the connection to the Windows server writing the data.  
We had to restore the data without security.
