You don't say what the file system type is, which is the important piece of 
information.  For example, Linux systems may or may not support NTFS: you can 
visually check for what your kernel is programmed for via 'ls 
/lib/modules/*/kernel/fs/'.  And see "File system and ACL support" in the 
client manual for what file system types are documented as being supported.
