HATE IT !!!!

Too big, needs enormous resources. Still using old web admin with 5.3. Just
testing upgrade to 5.5(decided to wait for 6.1 upgrade after horror stories on
this forum).
Web admin was perfect for us, I can lunch it from anywhere, worked perfectly,
very light.

Tried to download 2 days ago admin center 6.1 from Passport Advantage (to
administer my future 5.5), but file stored there was in .bin format. Called
Passport Advantage, they admitted it was their problem, they said it will take
24 hours to fix, still nothing. It took me about 2 hours and 4 people to
explain the problem at the first place. Still don't know if they understood it,
or they are just pretending.

IBM is good, but if you have a problem that is not in their "procedure bible"
book, nobody knows what to do.

I don't use the admin center at all. Our production servers are all
5.5. I just use the command line and route commands to various TSM
servers.
I have used the 5.3 Admin Center in classes but hated it (In part
because I had just gotten my arms around the 5.1 GUI.)(It was a long
time ago, okay?) Wanda has indicated that the updated Admin Center is
much more user friendly than in the past and that I should consider
embracing change. There are very nice reporting features in 6.X that
you need the Admin Center for. (Bertaut Tchuise can speak about that at
length.)

If I had to use it, I might learn to like it, people smarter than I
built it and have worked hard to improve it.

Hello,

Yesterady I was working with new TSM AC 6.1. and I was getting several
errors from Admin Center 6.1. Twice I got to restart the TSM server/ac
Machine becuase TSM AC hanged. I suffered the TSM AC 5.3.. But several
years late. In my opinion, the TSM AC look & feel is not so good, it is
too complicate to use for new and even for experienced users.

I think TSM Manager and others software is an alternative for
experimented users but the first impression for the new users is to
drive off TSM. Until now TSM users don't claim enought about AC..

I would like to know how many TSM administrators are using the AC, and
how many people are using only AC without TSM Admin command line (
dsmadmc or dsmadmc -console). This will be an example if the TSM AC GUI
is good or people only uses AC for two o three admin tasks.

IBM should solve this problem now and IBM should improve the TSM GUI.
One example is the XIV Gui.

I also think, IBM should simplify TSM too much, each day other SW are
doing the Backup tasks in a simple way and TSM needs a lot of
configurations.

Regards,

Fran
