Thanks.  That's what I had been trying, unsuccessfully, until this morning.  
Then I remembered to add replace=yes on the export command.

export a node (no data) with the cloptset associated to it, the cloptset
gets exported as well.

Bit of straightforward with a sidestep (dance the chacha).
