A few things come to mind.

The easiest reclamation is the one you don't do, so place TDP data or
archives that will expire in strict time sequence into their own storage
pools and resist the temptation to reclaim at all.  You may need to
schedule a once a month reclamation just to clean up odds and ends.

Large files can be very expensive to reclaim and require moving a lot of
data to get a small amount of space back.  Consider using MAXSIZE/NEXTSTG
on the stgpool to keep large files together in their own pool.

For backup/archive data that will expire all over the  place, consider
whether you need to reclaim every day.  Once a week may be enough.

Make your reclaim threshold as high as possible.

Since VTL performance is your issue, consider using a reclaim storage pool
on sequential storage to limit virtual tape to virtual tape data movement.

One other thing to think about...  If you always use a duration on your
reclaim processes, there may be tapes that always get bypassed.  Once a
month or so, allow a reclaim to run to completion to catch these cases.

Hello Everyone,



  I was wondering is there a way to make reclamation for TSM more
efficient.  For instance moving data around before you start
reclamation?



Does anyone have any ideas?  The reason I am asking is that I am using a
VTL, and to reclamate a single tape takes about 90minutes at 65%.  I was
just thinking is there away to help reclamation along



Any Ideas or Comments are always appreciated
