Thanks for all the feedback, references and suggestions (I wish I would
have asked this question, earlier.....it would reduce the size of my 500K
daily report  ;--)).

I have passed all this info on to the folks who own/manage the
servers/nodes with these problems.

as already explained by others on this list, this is a language/code page
issue.
You may want to read our Tivoli Field Guide titled :
Tivoli Storage Manager and Localization: Localization Considerations Using
the Linux and UNIX Backup-Archive Client
It is available here :

In particuplar, pay attention to Appendix F titled "Locale and the UNIX
Shell".
It offers some detailed examples which explains why the ANS4042E error is
logged
and how to solve it using the en_US locale.
