Here's an old chestnut.

I'm trying to develop the definitive Windows2003 include/exclude list,
with the idea that it will be applied to all W2k3 servers in the
organization with local overrrides where necessary.   This includes for
Citrix/ terminal servers, app servers, Exchange, Notes, and MSSQL
Servers (since MSSQL appears everywhere like a weed).  I've been through
the FilesNotToInclude registry keys, and the sample excludes and have
come up with the following list.  I've added the Exclude.archives as the
proverbial monthly backup is often required and about half the time is
done with an archive. That is not my preference, but its what I have to
live with.  Wouldn't it be good to have an exclude.both?

I'd particularly like comment on the following:

The OS supplies particular entries for \System Volume Information
(eg \System Volume Information\*{3808876B-C176-4e48-B7AE-04046E6CC752})

Is it still necessary to have a general exclude for these?

It seems the open exchange databases add themselves to the exclude list
in the registry.  Is it safe to exclude what I have?  Would it be just
as safe and simpler to just exclude the whole of any mdbdata directory?
Can I be more general and exclude the whole of Mailroot?

My intention is to put the onus for MSSQL database backups back on the
implementer.  They need to schedule an ntbackup or buy TDP licences.  Is
that a reasonable approach?  Do any of you use that policy?
