How about assigning System State to its own management class and using
the Frequency option?

.
It's the Vista System State. I opened a PMR with IBM about this, and
they said "Broken as Microsoft designed it". The only way to back up a
Vista System State is to do a full backup. Incrementals are not
supported. So TSM does a full backup of the System State, every day.
This apparently will not be fixed - Vista clients will simply be allowed
to overwhelm TSM servers.

Our only bypass has been to create a Client Option Set that excludes the
System State, and assign it to all Vista clients. I've got to check
daily to see if there are any new Vista clients, assign them to the
CLOPTSET, and then delete the filespace for their System State. That
CLOPTSET cannot be used for everyone, because it causes errors with XP
clients. It also means that if somebody "upgrades" (sic) from XP to
Vista, I've got to catch them on that day.

Neither IBM nor Microsoft has been at all helpful with this very large
problem. That may be because of Vista's failure in the corporate market.
Much as we might want to avoid Vista, we get lots of Vista client nodes
as people buy new computers with Vista preinstalled. We have to tell
them we cannot make a full backup, and they will not be able to do a
"bare metal" restore.

Can anybody at IBM help with this? Finger pointing at Microsoft is not
an adequate answer.
