That is exactly the plan. 1 full backup on the TSM instance with the
LTO4 library. And let

However, 80% of the data I was considering moving is archived data and
long term E-mail retention.
And I was hoping to find an easier way to do it.

Thanks.

Duane,

I would seriously consider leaving that data alone and let it die a
natural death with time. Perhaps do an export node on nodes with
archive data if necessary. The systems that are currently backing up to
that server will be simply moved to the new server and a full backup
done.

The downside is the full backup and needing to keep two servers around
in the event an older restore is required.

The upside is you don't have to do the export or migration of old data
and you get a nice clean start. After many years a TSM server can often
do with a clean start...

Call if you want to chat in more depth. We've done this several tens of
times with our customers.

Subject: [ADSM-L] TSM server consolidation.

Good day all,
We are in the process of mapping out a plan to consolidate multiple TSM
servers into a single instance and a single library.

Currently I have 3 separate TSM instances using LTO2, LTO3 and SDLT320
libraries. Housing approximately 300 Tb of data.
I've been through a library conversion once before and that was a
nightmare and took over a month to complete and didn't include the added
complexity of merging TSM instances.

The plan.
Step 1: Replace the library using LTO2 with a larger expandable library
using LTO4. Migrate all data from LTO2 to LTO4.
Step 2: Move the data from the other two TSM instances to the TSM
instance using the LTO4 library.
Step 3: Celebrate.

My question:
Does anyone know of a painless way to move the 90+ TB of data from the
TSM instance utilizing the SDLT320 library to the TSM instance utilizing
the LTO4 library ?

Thanks,
Duane
