We have SEPATON here. SEPATON is a 'standalone' solution vs 'integrated'
that you get with EMC. That is, with standalone, TSM has full control of
all onsite and offsite tapes. With an integrated library, TSM lost control
of all offsite tapes. This just makes an additional point of failure.

Here are our answers:

1. EMC CDL (now called EMC Disk Library)
2. Yes. Backup is fast; eliminates the need to migrate from disk to
tape; reclamation is much faster; backup stgpool is faster. It allows
you to continue backups even if your real tape library is giving you
problems.
3. Wouldn't choose differently
4. Not yet, but we will soon. I know of several other sites who are
with no problems. It just looks like two separate tape libraries to two
separate TSM servers. The TSM servers don't even know they are sharing
a device.
5. No

We have two now, and are on the verge of getting two more larger ones.

1. Sepaton
2. Yes
3. No
4. No
5. No

It's just a fast library. Eliminates the need for collocation.

We have a number of vendors coming in with their wares and I was
wondering if those who use a VTL might pass on some info. As you all
know when you're in these types of sales pitches you always hear how
great theirs are and that nobody else can do what they do. My questions
are below.

1. What VTL did you choose?
2. Is it all they said it would be?
3. If you do it over again would you choose differently and if so
which one? This could also relate to wishing a current product was out
at the time you made your decision.
4. Is anyone using their VTL in a multi-system environment where
you have either more than 1 TSM server and/or both TSM 'AND' Netbackup?
5. Is anyone replicating their VTL to a DR site? If so are you
experiencing any issues there?

I understand there is going to be many answers here but I'd prefer to
get the lowdown on how things work from those that are using them and
not from someone who tells me how it's going to work.
