I was hoping someone had a simple AIX solution that I had missed
about memory or similar. Does TSM client have some memory
limitation?

Anyway, I have started looking at virtualmountpoint, need
my Application person to get me some info on the filesystem
and how I can break it up - and make sure that I get everything!

An unenviable situation there, David. (I have some AIX 4.3 system
clients, myself.)

Yes, you can "break up" the file system by one means: the TSM
VIRTUALMountpoint option, which will allow you to logically subdivide
the file system into manageable branches and filespaces. That option
and -INCRBYDate are among the approaches listed in the "Many small
files" problem entry in ADSM QuickFacts, which may give you some
ideas.
