This was interesting, so I'll share it here,

The library is a Quantum M1500, 2 frames stacked, with 4 Quantum LTO3
drives that show in windows as HP LTO 3.

To update the firmware to solve our errors during reclaim/move data I
first tried HP LTO3 firmware. The drives reported they were version G26Z
and HP's newer version is G54D. So looks good.  The update failed as
below, though.

It turns out Quantum Firmware is needed, but you can't apply it using the
Quantum TapeRx or DFU tool, you need to use the HP Library and Tape Tools.

So Quantum drives, Shown as HP LTO3 in windows, use Quantum firmware with
HP Library and tape tools to do the update, not the Quantum update tools.

Isn't there a tsmdlist command or something similar that you can run
from CMD?

Something similar to tapeutil?
