Well, a lot of info here. Several things.
1. Use 'checkin libv 3584lib search=bulk status=scratch waitt=0'
and the "reply" is no longer needed - as long as tapes are in I/O port
first. The "waittime" parameter was added at TSM 5.3. Makes
scripting easier.
2. What tapes are you checking in? The error:
Volume 000017 in library 3584LIB cannot be assigned a status of
SCRATCH.
Generally means the tape is in a Tape Stg pool per the TSM DB
of the server that is doing the checkin. Make sure of the status
of the tapes before checkign in. If they are tapes with data, use
status=private instead of status=scratch.
I think this will solve most of your problems.

Finally started moving our TSM server off the main frame to a new AIX
Server. The consultant created AIX scripts for most of the automatic
processing but I am having problems with the checkin process. I ran
the
following script and it completes successfully but there are errors in
my
activity log which I'll paste below the script.
On my ZOS TSM server I have a script that updates empty volumes to
readwrite in order to use them for scratch...but I cannot find this
update
in any of the new scripts (TSM or AIX). I don't know if I need to add
this or not...being a total AIX newbie. If that is not the problem
can
someone tell me what I may be missing?
