thanks, but i know this ... i was thinking more
like the gui where you can just click the node name on
the top of the tree and then click search button
and enter the info you know/need ... considering
that this view is organized by archive descriptions
(if they exist) or simply by archive date (as default)
i think that something like dsmc q ar /.../file.ext -search
would  be nice ... but ... you know.

Do you mean,

Query backup / query archive ?

dsmc>query backup /home/user/somefile -ina

would show all backups of /home/user/somefile, including inactive
versions. There are wildcards and other options / qualifiers you can
use.
