It's also part of the tape label (L1, L2 or L3, that is if you are using
the IBM labels).
I've seen at a customer site tape labels like A0000002 and then
TSM/Library/Driver thinks this is an
LTO2 tape, but in fact it was LTO1.

how can changer know that he cannon put LTO1 tape in LTO3 drive ?
