Where can the TSM Journal Database Viewing Utility for TSM 5.3 Win2000 /
2003 nodes be found?

Hi,

Since you don't state which operating system you are using I will assume
it's Windows. For that you can use two utilites, one from SysInternals,
called FileMon and which freeware. Here is a snip of product information
from their homepage http://www.sysinternals.com

"FileMon monitors and displays file system activity on a system in
real-time. Its advanced capabilities make it a powerful tool for exploring
the way Windows works, seeing how applications use the files and DLLs, or
tracking down problems in system or application file configurations.
Filemon's timestamping feature will show you precisely when every open,
read, write or delete, happens, and its status column tells you the
outcome."

The second thing you can use is the TSM Journal Database Viewing Utility,
where you can see all entries in the Journal DB, and what type of change
that triggered it.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Ämne: Incremental change and Journaling

I have a question regarding Journaling:

I understand that journaling runs as a service, monitors file activity
and records this activity in a file for the BA Client to reference
instead of running a full disk scan at the point of backup.
I have a file server at a remote location connected via a 2mb leased
line that runs a daily incremental of (usually) a couple of gb.
Sometimes the session runs over into the next day due to extended
incremental change and it is necessary to cancel the session so as not
to impact on other daily traffic. I have not had the need to implement
journaling on any of our nodes but might for this remote node - Is there
any way of making the journal file contents visible using a text editor
in order that we may locate the unexpected change in file sizes (we are
not sure if it is new, changed or renamed files that are causing the
volume of data to change). If it is not possible to find out this info
from TSM can anyone recommend a 3rd party utility that can monitor
file/folder change?

Many thanks, C Adams.
