I have seen this when the compression exceeds the predefined size of the
volume. For instance a sdlt320 predefined at 160 and it actually holds
more than that due to compression.

Why not?  :-)
I think the underlying problem is that the product is still using a
single decimal position, which is inappropriate with today's
very-high-capacity tapes. With rounding up, a 99.97382% full condition
would have to be reported as 100.0% to satisfy the single decimal
position. This is something that TSM Server Development sorely needs to
address, as it keeps coming up as a customer point of confusion.
